Mounties Suffer Loss in Last Regular Season Game

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius women's lacrosse team (6-7, 4-2 AMCC) traveled to Pittsburgh to face the La Roche Redhawks (12-1, 6-0) for both teams' final regular season game. The Mounties would look to avenge a 14-1 loss suffered against the Redhawks earlier this season. Unfortunately for the Mounties, they would not avenge the loss, suffering a 16-9 defeat.

The first half was a close affair, with the Mounties overcoming an early two-goal deficit. La Roche would score off a man advantage though, ending the first quarter with a 3-2 lead. Discipline would be a problem for the Mounties, as they would concede four goals on the man disadvantage.

In the second half, the Redhawks would be more clinical, scoring 10 goals off of 17 shots (59%) compared to 6-for14 (42%) in the first half. This would be what would separate the two teams as the Mounties would score on 36% of their shots compared to La Roche's 52%.

The goal scorers for the Mounties were: Cassidy Cook (Glen Burnie, Md. / North County), Katelyn Garber (Midlothian, Va. / Manchester), and Jordan Turner (Grampian, Pa. / Curwensville) each with two, Sara Borlie (Kennett Square, Pa., Unionville)Brenna Dobson (Lewistown, Pa. / Mifflin County), and Shelby Smeal (Altoona, Pa., Altoona) each with one.

Women's lacrosse will play in a semi-final against either Alfred State (3-8, 1-4 AMCC) or Hilbert (1-9, 0-5 AMCC) next Tuesday, April 29th, at Kelly Field.
