CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Baseball team wrapped up the home portion of the 2025 schedule with a four-game homestand, finishing on Wednesday. Over the week, the Mounties won all four games and tied the program record with 27 wins on the season. In addition to the team record, senior
Tyler Quade (Mechanicsville, Md. / Chopticon) picked up his 230th career hit to set the program record for career hits. His career total now sits at 236 hits overall.
Game One saw the Mounties fall behind 3-0 over the first two innings. However, they responded with 21 runs over their next four at-bats, including two separate eight run innings, to put the game cleanly out of reach. Pitt-Bradford added one run before the game finished with a 21-4 score.
Ryan Bushey (Latrobe, Pa. / Derry) and
Owen McDermott (West Leechburg, Pa. / Leechburg) each drove in five runs for the Mounties, while
Sidric Grove (Clearville, Pa. / Everett) went 4-for-4 and scored four runs. Quade earned the victory on the mound for Mount Aloysius, improving to 4-3 on the season.
In the day's second game, the Mounties again fell behind after a first inning run from the Panthers.
Brandon Cook (Glen Burnie, Md. / St. Mary's) knotted the game at one, with his ninth homerun of the season, in the bottom of the first. Fast forward to the fith inning with the score still tied at one, the Mounties offense clicked with some help from the Pitt-Bradford defense, leading to six runs scored and a 7-1 Mountie lead. While the Panthers added one more run in the sixth inning, the Mountie advantage was untouched and they earned a 7-2 conference victory.
John Luke Bailey (New Kensington, Pa. / Valley Area) earned the victory for Mount Aloysius with a quality start of 6.0 innings and just one earned run allowed. He improved to 3-1 on the season. Freshman
Jacob Smith (Leechburg, Pa. / Kiski Area) earned his first career save, with the rare three-inning save out of the bullpen. Smith allowed just two hits and struck out seven batters in his three innings of work.
With a 3-for-4 performance from Quade in Game Two, he passed Mountie Hall of Famer Bryan Nolan, with his 230th career hit, becoming the program's all-time leader in hits.
On Tuesday, the Mounties jumped out of conference play to host Westminster. Mount Aloysius jumped on the Titans, scoring the first seven runs of the game. While the Titans closed the gap to 7-5, the Mounties added five runs in the sixth inning to stretch the lead back out to 12-5. The weather shortened the game, ending it in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Cook went 4-for-5 and hit his tenth homerun, while scoring four times and driving in two in the victory.
Jeremy Eck (Myerstown, Pa. / Eastern Lebanon County) delivered a two-run homer, his third of the season, being one of four Mounties, including Cook, to drive in two runs in the contest. Freshman
Troy Misiura (Coalport, Pa. / Glendale) earned his fifth victory of the season with 5.0 innings of work and four strikeouts.
Wednesday's non-conference contest against Chatham may have been the most thrilling of the week. Chatham held leads of 2-0 and 9-7, while the Mounties led from the second inning until the eighth, as the game see-sawed back and forth. After watching the Cougars score four runs in the top of the eighth inning, grabbing a 9-7 lead, the Mounties responded in their half. Mount Aloysius got their first two runners on before Bushey and Cook delivered RBI hits to tie the game at nine, while also leaving two runners in scoring position. Quade then hit a sacrifice fly to center field to drive home the go-ahead run, giving the Mounties a 10-9 lead.
Joey DeRubeis (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona) closed out the game for the Mounties, in the ninth, earning his seventh save of the season.
Logan Gustafson (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) improved to 2-0 after coming on in relief to finish the eighth inning. Eight different Mounties drove in at least one run in the victory, showing the full team effort.
The victory against Chatham also served as the team's 27th victory of the season, tying the program record, which was accomplished in both 2019 and 2022. The Mountie are guaranteed at least four more chances to break the record, as they wrap up regular season play at Penn State Behrend, this weekend, then will play in the AMCC Tournament next week, which is double-elimination.
Penn State Behrend is heading into this weekend's matchup with a 25-9 overall record and a 9-3 conference mark. The Lions have lost three of their last four games, following an 8-0 start to conference play. The Mounties have split with the Lions, each of the past two years and will travel to Erie for the first time since 2022.
