Game Recap: Baseball |

Mounties Fall in Regular Season Finale

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Baseball team had their regular season finale pushed from Saturday to Sunday and moved from Penn State Behrend's campus to Mercyhurst University, due to weather. Unfortunately for the Mounties, the moves seemed not to help and they fell in both ends of the twin-bill.

In Game One, the Mounties started the scoring in the top of the third inning, when they had their 1-2-3 batters all deliver RBIs. Ryan Bushey (Latrobe, Pa. / Derry) and Brandon Cook (Glen Burnie, Md. / St. Mary's) each singled to drive home runs and Tyler Quade (Mechanicsville, Md. / Chopticon) then added an RBI on a fielder's choice, giving the Mounties a 3-0 lead.

Penn State Behrend responded with three runs to tie the game, in the bottom of the third, then after a scoreless top of the fourth, they added four more to take a 7-3 lead after four innings. Quade drove in another run to make the game 7-4, in the fifth inning, but the Lions scored once in the fifth and once in the sixth, while keeping the Mounties off the board. The home team would earn a 9-4 victory.

Cook was the only Mountie with two hits, as he went 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI, and a run scored. Quade drove in two of the four Mountie runs.

Game Two saw the Mounties struggle offensively. They tallied just two hits and one run scored, compared to 14 hits and six runs for Penn State Behrend. The Lions scored five of their runs in the second inning, while the Mounties pitching staff held them to just one run in their other seven at-bats. Logan Quade (Mechanicsville, Md. / Chopticon) was exceptional out of the bullpen, as he tossed 3.0 scorless innings and allowed just two hits and a walk.

Mount Aloysius will now turn their attention to the AMCC Tournament, which begins on Wednesday. In a new format, the Mounties will open the six-team, double elimination tournament, as the number five seed. They will play Hilbert, on Wednesday at 4 pm, in Johnstown at Sargent's Stadium at the Point. Mount Aloysius will have at least two more chances to set a new program record, if they can reach 28 wins on the season.
