Westminster, MD – Mount Aloysius women's volleyball team wrapped up the McDaniel Quad Match on Saturday. The Mounties put together a dominant showing at the Gill Center on Saturday, sweeping both N.C. Wesleyan and host McDaniel.
In the first game of the day against N.C. Wesleyan, the Mounties controlled the match from the start, taking a 3-0 win by set scores of 25-17, 25-20, and 25-16. Mount Aloysius hit .328 as a team, led by Molly Richards (Naples, Fla., Naples) and Poliana Lazarini (Marialva, Brazil / Garrido), who each tallied 15 kills. Mackenzie Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) added nine kills while also leading the Mounties with 14 digs. Reghyn Wilson (Harrisburg, Pa., Bishop McDevitt) handed out 23 assists, while Kiersten Cummings (Las Vegas, Nev, Nevada State) chipped in 17. Defensively, Richards and Lazarini each added double-digit digs as the Mounties kept the Battling Bishops to a .105 hitting percentage.
The Mounties carried that momentum into their evening match-up with McDaniel, coming away with another sweep by scores of 30-28, 25-16, and 25-12. The first set was a thriller as it was tightly contested. Both teams went back and forth the whole set until Richards' service ace gave the Mounties a 1-0 lead. Mount Aloysius cruised through the final two frames. Richards once again powered the attack with 16 kills and a match-high four aces, while Barr followed closely with 15 more kills of her own. Wilson (19 assists) and Cummings (15 assists) one again shared setting duties, and Madison Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) anchored the defense with 18 digs. Overall, the Mounties out-hit McDaniel .240 to .125 while holding the Green Terror to a negative hitting percentage in the final set.
AMCC Stats Update:
With 138 kills through 10 games, Richards leads the AMCC in kills per set (4.45) and is second in kills. Teammate Mackenzie Barr sits in fifth place with 92 kills and third in hitting percentage (.330). Barr's sister Madison is fifth in digs (144) and third in digs per set (4.65). Lazarini's eight aces yesterday puts her in second place in the AMCC for overall aces (25) and service aces per set (0.81).
With the undefeated road trip, the Mounties (7-3) extend their win streak to 6 after starting the season just 1-3.
Next Game: The Mounties will head to Pittsburgh, PA on Tuesday to take on AMCC foe, the La Roche College Redhawks (2-4) in a non-conference game. The match is expected to begin at 7:00 PM at the Kerr Fitness Center.
