Mounties Shutout Hawks In AMCC Opener

CRESSON, Pa. – The Mount Aloysius men's soccer team made a strong statement to begin Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) play, defeating Hilbert College 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Kelly Field. The Mounties used an aggressive first half and a balanced attack to control the match from start to finish, moving their record to 7-2-0 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play.

The Mounties wasted little time setting the tone. In the 10th minute, Junior Tanner Polcyn (Watsontown, Pa., Warrior Run) found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season, giving the Mounties early momentum. Just 17 minutes later, Polcyn turned provider, threading a pass off of a corner kick to Junior Martin Donner (Stockholm, Sweden, Danderyds Gymnasium Studievagl), who finished calmly for his first goal of 2025 and doubled the lead to 2-0. With two goal contributions in the opening half, Polcyn showcased his ability to both score and create, while Donner's strike gave the Mounties comfortable breathing room before halftime.

The Mounties didn't let up in the second half, continuing to generate pressure on Hilbert's back line. In the 53rd minute, Mount extended their advantage when Freshman Levi Bryne (Storvreta, Sweden, Celsiusskolan) scored his second goal of the season off a beautiful center ball from Donner. The play was a product of sharp passing, as Donner and Senior Gonzalo Terricabris (Catalonia, Spain, Garbi Pere Verges) combined to set up Bryne for a one-time finish that made it 3-0. The score held for the final whistle, as Mount Aloysius locked down defensively and kept Hilbert from finding a way back into the contest.

Mount out-shot Hilbert 19-9 overall, including an 8-2 edge in shots on goal, and earned nine corner kicks compared to the Hawks' four.

Hilbert (3-3-1, 0-1-0 AMCC) finished with nine shots but struggled to break down the organized Mountie defense.

With the win, the Mounties improve to 7-2 (1-0) and start AMCC play on the right foot. The Mounties will look to build on the victory as they'll have a gap in between their next conference game. They will host Carnegie Mellon (6-1-3) in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday at 7:30 PM @ Kelly Field.
