CRESSON, Pa. — Mount Aloysius opened conference play Monday night with a dominant 87-43 victory at the Athletic Convocation & Wellness Center.
The Mounties set the tone early, jumping out to a 22-5 lead after the first quarter and never looking back. Mount Aloysius led 44-22 at halftime before continuing to build the margin in the second half, outscoring its opponent 43-21 over the final two quarters.
Annalyn Isaacs (Harmony, Pa., Mars) led the Mounties with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting in just 20 minutes of action. Ashlie Weaver (Schellsburg, Pa., Chestnut Ridge) added 12 points off the bench, while Haley Ross (Three Springs, Pa., Southern Huntingdon) and Lauryn Kitchen (DuBois, Pa., Clearfield) chipped in 10 and nine points, respectively, as Mount Aloysius showcased its depth with 43 bench points.
Mount Aloysius shot 48.6 percent from the field and controlled the paint, outscoring its opponent 42-10 inside. The Mounties also capitalized on turnovers, scoring 31 points off 25 forced turnovers, and held a 44-20 advantage on the glass.
Defensively, Mount Aloysius limited its opponent to just five points in the opening quarter and 34 percent shooting for the game. The Mounties forced double-digit turnovers in every quarter and allowed only one lead change throughout the contest.
With the win, Mount Aloysius improved to 6-10 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
