Cresson, Pa - On Monday night, women's basketball hosted the Penn State Harrisburg Lions in a non-conference match-up inside the ACWC. The Mounties collected their first win of the new year, defeating the Lions by the score of 56-50.Â
The Mounties overcame a slow start, scoring just four points in the opening quarter, but slowly settled in during the second period. Mount Aloysius shot 50 percent from the field in the quarter and outscored the Lions 17-12 to take a 21-20 lead into halftime.
Although both teams came out the half hot, momentum fully swung in favor of the Mounties.  A strong third quarter, highlighted by efficient shooting and control on the glass, saw Mount Aloysius post 22 points and build its largest lead of the night. The Mounties knocked down three triples in the frame (Two from Isaacs and one from Reed) and held Penn State Harrisburg to 18 points.
Penn State Harrisburg made a push in the fourth quarter, but the Mounties stayed composed at the free-throw line, converting 7-of-8 attempts in the final period to protect the lead and close out the win.Â
Junior Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) led the Mounties with a double-double, finishing with 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds while adding three blocks. Junior Annalyn Isaacs (Harmony, Pa., Mars) also scored 13 points, knocking down three three-pointers, while sophomore Masie Reed (Shamokin, Pa., Our Lady of Lourdes) chipped in eight points and three assists. Freshman Haley Ross (Three Springs, Pa., Southern Huntingdon) provided a spark off the bench with eight points in just 13 minutes.
The Mounties won the rebounding battle 41-37 and recorded 14 assists on 18 made field goals, using balanced contributions to secure the non-conference victory.
With the win, the Mounties improve to 4-7 on the season and will transition back into AMCC play, where they are 2-0 after defeating Hilbert and Carlow before the break.
The Mounties will host AMCC foe Pitt-Bradford (0-10, 0-3 AMCC) on Wednesday in the ACWC. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm, with the men's game to follow.
