CRESSON, Pa. — Troy Tinch (Baltimore, Md., Calvert Hall) had 24 points and 10 rebounds as Mount Aloysius rallied past Penn State Altoona 98-87 on Wednesday night in an electric, high-energy atmosphere inside the Athletic Convocation & Wellness Center.
With an intense crowd fueling the comeback effort, Donovan Bass-Briscoe (Alexandria, Va., Hayfield) added 23 points and went 8 of 9 from the free-throw line, while Senique Jenkins (Columbus, Ohio, Imani Christian ) recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Jordon Nelson (Charlotte, N.C., Hickory Grove) finished with 11 points and seven assists for the Mounties (4-18, 2-11 AMCC).
Penn State Altoona led 51-43 at halftime after shooting 51.6% from the field and knocking down nine 3-pointers in the opening 20 minutes.
Mount Aloysius responded with a dominant second half, shooting 69.2% (18 for 26) after the break and limiting the visitors to just 2-for-20 from beyond the arc in the final period. The Mounties outscored Penn State Altoona 55-36 in the second half to seal the win.
Mount Aloysius shot 61.4% overall (35 for 57), went 20 of 25 at the free-throw line and held a 34-27 rebounding edge, including 50 points in the paint.
The victory marked one of the Mounties' most efficient offensive performances of the season and came in front of one of the most charged home crowds of the year in a great team win.
