HAMBURG, N.Y. — Mount Aloysius used a dominant first quarter and a balanced scoring effort to secure a 73-45 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victory over Hilbert College on Saturday afternoon at the Brad Hafner Recreation Center.
The Mounties improved to 9-14 overall and 7-7 in AMCC play, while Hilbert fell to 3-20 and 3-11 in conference action.
Mount Aloysius set the tone early, shooting 64.7 percent in the opening quarter to build a 27-11 advantage. The Mounties never trailed and did not allow a lead change.
After limiting Hilbert to just five points in the second quarter, Mount Aloysius carried a commanding 33-16 lead into halftime.
The Mounties maintained control in the third quarter before pulling away in the fourth, shooting 66.7 percent in the final period to seal the 28-point road win.
Mount Aloysius shot 54.2 percent from the field (32 of 59) and held Hilbert to 32.1 percent shooting. The Mounties controlled the glass with a 36-28 rebounding advantage and forced 18 turnovers, converting them into 21 points.
Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) led all scorers with 21 points on 10-of-12 shooting while adding 13 rebounds for a double-double. Annalyn Isaacs (Harmony, Pa., Mars) and Taylor Doyle (Blanchard, Pa., Central Mountain) each added 11 points, while Ashlie Weaver (Schellsburg, Pa., Chestnut Ridge) chipped in eight points on a perfect 4-for-4 effort from the field off the bench.
Mount Aloysius dominated the paint with 44 points inside and received 27 points from its bench in a complete team performance.
The Mounties return to action Wednesday, Feb. 18, when they host the Carlow Celtics at 7 p.m. in AMCC play.
