Mounties Defeated By Behrend On Sunday Afternoon

Cresson, Pa. - On Sunday, the Mounties hosted the Penn State Behrend Lions for an AMCC contest. The Lions came out on top, defeating the Mounties in straight sets (25-20, 25-11, and 25-16).

Behrend controlled the match offensively, hitting .376 as a team and finishing with 42 kills, while using a balanced attack to keep the Mounties on their heels throughout all three sets. Lewis Rhodes led the Lions with 12 kills on an efficient .800 hitting percentage, while Tarendran Heyward added seven kills and six assists in the win.

For the Mounties, freshman Bryson Brooks (Martinsburg, Pa., Central) paced the offense with seven kills on .313 hitting, finishing with a team-high eight points. Sophomore Zach Rosenwald (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) followed with six kills, while senior setter Connor O'Mealia (Rochester, N.Y., Churchville) directed the attack with 16 assists and added a service ace.

Defensively, sophomore Brady Diegelman (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler Area) led the Mounties with nine digs, helping keep rallies alive against a strong Behrend attack. At the net, Mount Aloysius recorded four block assists, with senior Jason Freed (East Aurora, N.Y., East Aurora) registering two blocks and Rosenwald and Brooks each contributing one.

Despite flashes of competitiveness, Mount Aloysius struggled to find consistency offensively, finishing with a negative hitting percentage as Behrend capitalized on long runs and efficient side-out play.

The Mounties move to 1-15 overall and 1-2 in AMCC play, while Penn State Behrend remains unbeaten in conference action at 3-0 and 8-4 overall. The Mounties are now off for almost a full week, as they'll travel to Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY for a Tri-Match on Saturday. The Mounties will play the host-team Bard at 2:00 pm, and follow it up with Wilkes University right after at 4:00 pm. Both games will be played at the Stevenson Athletic Center.
