GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Mount Aloysius men's volleyball team showed flashes of its offensive potential Friday afternoon, but ultimately fell in four sets, 25-14, 25-22, 21-25, 25-21, at College Arena.
The Mounties (0-10) bounced back from a slow start to claim the third set and push the match deep into the fourth, highlighted by their most efficient offensive stretch of the afternoon. Mount Aloysius posted a .385 hitting percentage in the third set, totaling 13 kills with just three errors to seize momentum and keep the match alive.
Connor O'Mealia (Rochester, N.Y., Churchville) paced the Mounties with 26 assists while adding six kills and two blocks. Brady Diegelman (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler Area) led the team with 11 kills, and Zach Rosenwald (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) chipped in six kills, an ace, and 11 digs. Bryson Brooks (Martinsburg, Pa., Central) recorded a team-high 12 digs, and Jason Freed (East Aurora, N.Y., East Aurora) added 11 digs and three blocks at the net.
Mount Aloysius finished with 33 kills and 53 digs, while also recording four aces and four total team blocks. Despite the setback, the Mounties showed growth offensively and defensively, particularly in sets three and four, as they continued to compete throughout the afternoon.
The Mounties will look to build on the performance as they continue nonconference play.
