- The Mounties endured a tough doubleheader on Tuesday in Myrtle Beach, dropping both ends of the day against strong competition. Mt. Aloysius fell 9-1 to Ursinus in the morning game, then managed just four hits in a 5-2 loss to TCNJ in the afternoon.
The Mounties hung tough early, but a big seventh inning from Ursinus proved to be the difference in a 9-1 loss on Tuesday morning in Myrtle Beach.
Despite the final score, junior Scott Ranallo (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Hills) turned in a solid start on the mound. The right-hander worked 6.1 innings, striking out six while keeping the Mounties within striking distance through the first six frames. Ursinus scratched across runs in the first, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, but never fully broke the game open early.
Mt. Aloysius collected eight hits offensively, with Logan Quade (Mechanicsville, Md., Chopticon ), Anthony Maseto (Cherry Tree, Pa., Harmony), Owen McDermott (West Leechburg, Pa., Leechburg), and Tyler Alexander (Portage, Pa., Portage) each recording two hits. The Mounties finally got on the board in the seventh when Coy Martino (Punxsutawney, Pa., Punxsutawney) drove in McDermott, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
However, Ursinus responded immediately with a five-run seventh inning, highlighted by multiple RBI hits and aggressive baserunning, to put the game out of reach.
