Mounties Fall in Five Sets on the Road

HOUGHTON, N.Y. — Mount Aloysius pushed Houghton to five sets Friday night but ultimately fell 3-2 (25-23, 25-21, 22-25, 23-25, 10-15) in an AMCC men's volleyball matchup at the Nielsen Center.

The Mounties (3-19, 3-4 AMCC) came out strong, taking the opening two sets behind an efficient offensive effort. Mount Aloysius hit over .200 in both the first and second sets to build a 2-0 lead and put Houghton on the defensive early.

Houghton (5-18, 4-4 AMCC) responded by winning the next two sets to even the match, capitalizing on key runs late in each frame. The Highlanders carried that momentum into the decisive fifth set, pulling away late to secure the comeback victory.

Mount Aloysius finished with 53 kills and 13 service aces, matching Houghton in several statistical categories while recording 54 digs in a balanced defensive effort.

Brady Diegelman (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler Area) led the Mounties with 16 kills and added 15 digs for a double-double performance. Bryson Brooks (Martinsburg, Pa., Central) and Zach Rosenwald (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) each contributed 13 kills, with Brooks also adding 11 digs. Connor O'Mealia (Rochester, N.Y., Churchville) directed the offense with 44 assists, while Rosenwald led the team from the service line with five aces.

At the net, Evan Sigel (Bedford, Pa., Bedford) and Jason Freed (East Aurora, N.Y., East Aurora) each recorded three blocks to help anchor the Mounties' defensive front.
