Winchester, Va. — The Mount Aloysius Mounties dropped a non-conference road game to No. 22 Shenandoah Hornets, 21-1, on Wednesday afternoon.
Mount Aloysius collected four hits in the contest, led by a strong performance from Trent Dickson (Reinholds, Pa., Cocalico ). The Mounties shortstop finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and drove in the team's lone run. Sidric Grove (Clearville, Pa., Everett) also contributed offensively with a hit, recording a triple for Mount Aloysius.
Shenandoah built an early lead in the opening innings, but the Mounties continued to compete throughout the afternoon and broke through in the seventh. Dimitri Spagnola (West Leechburg, Pa., Kiski) reached base and later came around to score when Dickson placed a bunt single to first base, driving in the Mounties' run. Cole Harkness (Hughesville, Md., Saint Mary's Ryken) also helped create the scoring opportunity after drawing a walk and stealing a base in the inning.
Aaron Lunn (Butler, Pa., Butler) (0-1) made the start on the mound for Mount Aloysius. Brock Wensel (Kane, Pa., Kane), Mason Gearhart (Cherry Tree, Pa., Purchase Line), Gavin Sherman (Hughesville, Md., St. Mary's Riken) and Mason Byler (Martinsburg, Pa., Central Martinsburg) each saw time in relief as the Mounties worked through the remainder of the contest.
Mount Aloysius also turned in a clean defensive effort, committing no errors in the field.
The Mounties return to action Saturday when they host the Wilmington Quakers for a doubleheader at Point Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m., with game two set to follow at 3 p.m.
