Mounties Survive 34–32 Final Set to Defeat Hilbert

CRESSON, Pa. — Fueled by an electric home crowd, Mount Aloysius outlasted Hilbert in a thrilling four-set victory Friday night, defeating the visitors 3-1 in an AMCC men's volleyball matchup at the Athletic Convocation & Wellness Center.

The Mounties jumped in front early, taking the first two sets 25-21 and 25-22 behind an efficient offensive attack and strong defensive play. Mount Aloysius finished the night with advantages in several key statistical categories, including kills (65-46), assists (57-44) and digs (68-56).

Individually, Brady Diegelman (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler Area) led the Mounties with 22 kills while also contributing a team-high 26 digs. Zach Rosenwald (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) added 20 kills and two service aces while recording 11 digs. Jason Freed (East Aurora, N.Y., East Aurora) also reached double figures with 10 kills and chipped in 12 digs.

At setter, Connor O'Mealia (Rochester, N.Y., Churchville) guided the offense with 53 assists while adding a service ace and two blocks to help control the pace of the match.

Hilbert battled back to claim a tightly contested third set, 30-28, but the Mounties responded in dramatic fashion in the fourth. With the home fans energized and the atmosphere building inside the Convocation & Wellness Center, Mount Aloysius delivered its most productive offensive set of the match with 21 kills while hitting .232.

The teams traded points deep into the set before the Mounties finally pulled away to secure a 34-32 win, sealing the match and sending the home crowd into celebration after a back-and-forth finish.

With the win in front of an energized home crowd, Mount Aloysius improves to 2-18 overall and 2-3 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play.

The Mounties return to action at home again tomorrow when they host Buffalo State at 1 p.m.
