Cresson, PA - Baseball shook off an early deficit on a beautiful afternoon in Cresson, scoring 13 runs over the final four innings to power past La Roche, 13-5, on Wednesday.
How It Happened:
After falling behind 3-0 through four innings, the Mounties flipped the game on it's head with a massive six-run fifth inning. Capitalizing on multiple defensive miscues by the Redhawks, Mount Aloysius strung together timely hits, highlighted by RBI knocks from Anthony Maseto (Cherry Tree, Pa., Harmony) and Cole Harkness (Hughesville, Md., Saint Mary's Ryken). After that, Coy Martino (Punxsutawney, Pa., Punxsutawney) delivered the big swing, a two-run homer to right that gave the Mounties a 6-3 advantage.
That momentum carried into the sixth, where Tyler Alexander (Portage, Pa., Portage) crushed his sixth homerun of 2026, followed shortly by a solo shot off the bat of Logan Quade (Mechanicsville, Md., Chopticon) to extend the lead to 9-4. The homerun by Quade was the first of his collegiate career.
Mount Aloysius continued to apply pressure in the seventh, plating three more runs with patience at the plate, drawing bases-loaded walks and adding a sacrifice fly from Maseto.
On the mound, Scott Ranallo (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Hills) earned the win, tossing 7.0 innings while allowing four runs (only two earned) and striking out six. He worked around five walks and kept the Redhawks in check long enough for the offense to take control.
The Mounties tacked on one more in the eighth, with Dimitri Spagnola (West Leechburg, Pa., Kiski) driving in a run to cap the scoring. Offensively, Mount Aloysius pounded out 15 hits, with Alexander (3-for-5, three RBI), Trent Dickson (Reinholds, Pa., Cocalico) (3-for-4), and Quade (two hits, home run) leading the charge.
Despite committing three errors and trailing early, the Mounties showcased resilience, using power at the plate and a decisive mid-game surge to secure the 13-5 victory.
The Mounties (11-20, 5-6 AMCC) will now travel to La Roche for a doubleheader on Saturday. The games are scheduled for 1 & 3 PM at the Baierl Athletic Complex in Pittsburgh, PA.
