Ranallo’s Career Day Lifts Mount Aloysius Past Alfred State in Tournament Opener

Johnstown, PA - Baseball opened the 2026 AMCC Tournament in emphatic fashion Wednesday afternoon, rolling past Alfred State, 12-4, at Sargent's Stadium to secure the program's first postseason victory under first-year head coach Patrick Gully.

Behind a career performance from Scott Ranallo and a relentless offensive attack, the Mounties improved to 15-24 overall and advanced further into the AMCC Tournament bracket.

After Alfred State scratched across an unearned run in the third inning, Mount Aloysius answered in a major way during the fourth. The Mounties erupted for five runs in the frame, taking advantage of timely hitting and Pioneer miscues to seize complete control of the game.

Dimitri Spagnola tied the game with an RBI fielder's choice before Michael Todd delivered an RBI single to give the Mounties the lead. Jack Foster later drew a bases-loaded walk, while Logan Quade and Sidric Grove each added RBI contributions to cap the inning and put Mount Aloysius ahead 5-1.

The Mounties continued to pile on in the sixth inning. Quade ripped an RBI single up the middle before Tyler Alexander brought home two more runs with an RBI single that was aided by a throwing error, stretching the lead to 8-1.

Alfred State attempted to claw back into the contest with a pair of home runs in the bottom half of the sixth, but Ranallo settled back in and kept the Pioneers at bay. The junior right-hander turned in one of the best outings of his career, tossing seven innings (117 pitches) while striking out a career-high eight hitters to earn the postseason victory.

Mount Aloysius never allowed the momentum to shift, adding insurance runs in each of the final three innings. Foster drove in another run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh, Alexander added another RBI in the eighth, and Quade capped the scoring with his third RBI of the afternoon in the ninth.

Offensively, the Mounties pounded out 14 hits in the win. Grove, Alexander, and Todd each collected three-hit performances, while Quade finished with a team-high three RBIs. Coy Martino added a pair of hits and scored twice in the victory.

Out of the bullpen, Mason Gearhart was sharp over the final two innings, allowing no hits while striking out one to close out the victory.

With the win, Mount Aloysius advances to face top-seeded Penn State Behrend tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. back at Sargent's Stadium. The Mounties split their regular season series with the Lions earlier this spring.
