NEW CONCORD, Ohio - The Mount Aloysius College Men's Soccer team opened the 2026 season Tuesday Night, battling Muskingum University to a 3-3 draw at North Athletic Turf. The Mounties overcame a scoreless first half to take a two-goal lead into the second half before Muskingum rallied late to earn the draw.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, Mount Aloysius broke through just 2:08 into the second half when Zack Marshfield (Stroud, England, Stroud High Sixth Form) found the back of the net for his first collegiate goal at the 47:08 mark to give the Mounties a 1-0 advantage. The Mounties continued to apply pressure and doubled their lead in the 57th minute when Axel Qvarnstroem (Uppsala, Sweden, Katedralskolan ) scored his first collegiate goal off an assist from Rasmus Andersson (Orebro, Sweden, Virginska Gymnasiet), putting Mount Aloysius ahead 2-0.
Muskingum answered less than five minutes later, cutting the deficit to 2-1 at 61:54. Mount Aloysius responded immediately, however, as Andersson scored his first collegiate goal just moments later to restore the Mounties' two goal advantage at 3-1.
The Mounties continued to create opportunities, with Andersson forcing a save shortly after his goal and Qvarnstroem recording a blocked shot later in the half. Muskingum eventually found another breakthrough in the 70th minute to make it a 3-2 game.Â
Mount Aloysius held the lead into the final five minutes, but Muskingum scored at 85:20 to tie the match at 3-3. The Mounties had opportunities to reclaim the lead, including a late shot from Gonzalo Terricabris that was saved by Muskingum goalkeeper, but neither team could find a decisive goal before the final whistle.Â
The Mounties finished with 13 shots, including seven on goal, while Muskingum matched those totals with 13 shots and seven on goal. Both teams also recorded four corner kicks. In goal, Sam Denchfield (Truro, England, Loughborough College)Â made four saves for the Mounties.Â
Andersson led the Mounties offensively with a goal and an assist, while Marshfield and Qvarnstroem each added a goal. The 3-3 result gives Mount Aloysius a 0-0-1 record to begin the 2026 campaign.Â
