Cresson, PA - The Mountie's Men's Soccer team battled back from a 1-0 a halftime deficit to earn a 1-1 draw against Wilson College on Saturday afternoon at Kelly Field.
Wilson Struck first at the 44:12 mark. The Mountie's came out of the break applying pressure and eventually found the equalizer. At 59:48
Martin Donner (Stockholm, Sweden, Danderyds Gymnasium Studievagl) scored his first goal of the season off of an assist by
Armani Allison (Voorhees, N.J., Eastern Regional) bringing the match even at 1-1.
The Mounties continued to generate opportunities throughout the second half, finishing the afternoon with a commanding 15-7 advantage in shots and 11-8 edge in shots in the second half. The Mounties also earned 13 corner kicks compared to Wilson's 4.
Gonzalo Terricabris (Catalonia, Spain, Garbi Pere Verges) led the Mounties with 6 shots and 4 on goal, Donner recorded two shots including the teams lone goal.
Axel Qvarnstroem (Uppsala, Sweden, Katedralskolan ) added two shots, while
Ethan Daley (Chislehurst, England, Farringtons School) and Hugo Olausson Ljungmark (Trelleborg, Sweden, Soderlattsgymnasiet) each added a pair of attempts.
In goal,
Sam Denchfield (Truro, England, Loughborough College) played all 90 minutes recording 4 saves to keep the Phoenix off the board in the second half.
The draw brings the Mounties to 0-0-2 on the young season.
Mount Aloysius will return to action with another non-conference match as they take on Penn-State Beaver Tuesday, September 8th, at Kelly Field. Kickoff is 5:00PM. It is the first time the Mounties have matched up with Penn-State Beaver since 2013 when the Mounties won 7-1.
