CRESSON, Pa. — The Mount Aloysius College men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Juniata College on Wednesday evening at Kelly Field. The Mounties move to 1-1-2 on the season following the contest.
Mount Aloysius battled throughout the opening half, creating several opportunities on the offensive end. Gonzalo Terricabris (Catalonia, Spain, Garbi Pere Verges), Zack Marshfield (Stroud, England, Stroud High Sixth Form) and Pelayo Martin (Ciudad Real, Spain, IES Santa María de Alarcos) each recorded shots during the opening 45 minutes, with Terricabris putting a shot on goal that was saved by the Juniata goalkeeper. The Mounties entered halftime trailing 1-0.
The Mounties came out aggressively to begin the second half, registering six shots after halftime. Terricabris and Marshfield each recorded early second-half attempts as Mount Aloysius continued to look for the equalizer.
Juniata added two goals just over a minute apart in the 61st and 62nd minutes to extend its advantage. Despite the deficit, Mount Aloysius continued to generate opportunities and put pressure on the Juniata defense throughout the remainder of the match.
The Mounties finished with 10 total shots, one more than Juniata, and recorded six shots in the second half. Terricabris led the offensive effort with four shots, while Marshfield added two. Sanchez Olovson, Niklas (Stockholm, Sweden, Thorildsplans Gymnasium) also recorded a shot on goal late in the contest, forcing a save.
Sam Denchfield (Truro, England, Loughborough College) played all 90 minutes in goal for Mount Aloysius and finished with one save. The Mounties also earned two corner kicks during the contest.
Mount Aloysius will look to rebound in their next contest as they take on Westminster on the road Saturday at 6:00PM.
The Mounties are 1-0 all time vs. Westminster with their meeting from last year.
