CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Women's volleyball continued its impressive run Tuesday night, sweeping Wilson College 3-0 (26-24, 25-9, 25-14) at Gannett Field House. With the victory, the Mounties improve to 8-3 overall while extending their win streak to seven matches.
The Mounties battled through a tightly contested opening set as they trailed majority of it, edging the Phoenix 26-24 to take an early 1-0 lead. Mount Aloysius then found its rhythm in the second set, cruising to a 25-9 victory behind a .364 hitting percentage while holding Wilson to a -.172 hitting percentage.
The Mounties carried that momentum into the third set, closing out the sweep with a 25-14 victory. Mount Aloysius hit .182 in the final set and finished the match with a .214 hitting percentage compared to Wilson's -.029.
Mackenzie Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) continues her impressive senior campaign, as she led the Mounties offensively with 10 kills while adding five blocks. Freshman Jasmine Coble (Lewisberry, Pa., Red Land) followed with five kills, while sophomore Loren Stipanovich (Cresson, Pa, Penn Cambria) recorded four kills and two blocks.
Senior Reghyn Wilson (Harrisburg, Pa., Bishop McDevitt) paced the Mountie offense with 16 assists, while sophomore Kiersten Cummings (Las Vegas, Nev, Nevada State) added 12 assists and three aces. Sophomore Reagan Karcher (Marietta, Ohio, Marietta) who is fresh off of her game-winning ace against Pitt-Bradford, also recorded three aces.
Senior Madison Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) led the Mounties defensively with 14 digs and also had two aces, while junior Maya McIlwain (Rural Valley, Pa, West Shamokin) and Karcher each added seven digs apeice. Mount Aloysius finished with 44 digs, 10 aces and six blocks as a team.
The Mounties will look to make it eight consecutive victories when they return home Saturday.
They'll host La Roche University in an AMCC matchup at 12 p.m. inside the Athletic & Convocation and Wellness Center (ACWC). The Redhawks enter the matchup at 4-5 overall and 1-0 in AMCC play.
