CRESSON, Pa. - Alumni Day at the Mount was made even sweeter on Saturday afternoon, as the Mount Aloysius women's volleyball team continued its impressive run with a 3-1 victory over La Roche at the Athletic Convocation & Wellness Center.
The Mounties (9-3, 2-0 AMCC) have now won eight straight matches, while remaining unbeaten through their first two Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contests. La Roche falls to 4-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Mount Aloysius opened the match with a 25-21 victory in the first set before the Redhawks answered with a 25-23 win in the second. The Mounties responded in a big way, taking the third set 25-22 before closing out the match with a dominant 25-15 fourth-set victory.
The Mounties finished the afternoon with 50 kills compared to 48 for La Roche and held a .214 hitting percentage. Mount Aloysius also controlled the defensive battle, recording 72 digs to the Redhawks' 61. The Mounties added 14 service aces and four blocks in the victory.
Mackenzie Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) and Loren Stipanovich (Cresson, Pa, Penn Cambria) led the Mount attack with 13 kills apiece. Barr added three blocks, while Stipanovich recorded two blocks. Ava Patton (Bellwood, Pa, Bellwood-Antis) chipped in eight kills while hitting .273 for the match, and Sarah Iman (Purgitsville, W.V., Moorefield) added seven kills while hitting a team-best .357.
Reghyn Wilson (Harrisburg, Pa., Bishop McDevitt) helped orchestrate the Mount offense with a team-high 21 assists while also recording a career-high eight service aces. Kiersten Cummings (Las Vegas, Nev, Nevada State) added 20 assists and three aces.
Defensively, Madison Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) once again led the way with 27 digs. Reagan Karcher (Marietta, Ohio, Marietta) followed with nine digs, while Maya McIlwain (Rural Valley, Pa, West Shamokin) added seven.
The Mounties will look to make it nine straight when they return to action next week on the road at Pitt-Greensburg (3-8, 1-1 AMCC). The Mounties will take on the Bobcats on Wednesday with first serve being at 7:00 PM in Chambers Hall.
