CRESSON, Pa. — The Mount Aloysius College men's soccer team battled back twice Saturday afternoon, earning a 3-3 draw against Mount Union at Kelly Field.
Mount Aloysius found itself in an early 1-0 hole before Gonzalo Terricabris (Catalonia, Spain, Garbi Pere Verges) answered in the 19th minute to level the match. The Mounties continued to battle through the opening half, but Mount Union added another goal in the 38th minute to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.
Terricabris struck again early in the second half, scoring his second goal of the afternoon in the 72nd minute with an assist from Axel Qvarnstroem (Uppsala, Sweden, Katedralskolan ). The goal cut the deficit to 3-2 and gave the Mounties renewed momentum.
Mount Aloysius continued to push for the equalizer, and its persistence paid off late in the match. With just over four minutes remaining, Martin Donner (Stockholm, Sweden, Danderyds Gymnasium Studievagl) found the back of the net in the 86th minute, scoring off assists from Pelayo Martin (Ciudad Real, Spain, IES Santa María de Alarcos) and Declan Berry (Taunton, England, Pyrland School) to bring the match level at 3-3.
The Mounties had opportunities to complete the comeback in the final minutes. Goalkeeper Elliot Enbacka (Stockholm, Sweden, Sjölins Gymnasium) made a save on a Mount Union shot in the 87th minute, helping preserve the tie as Mount Aloysius closed out the match.
Terricabris led the Mount Aloysius attack with two goals on two shots on target, while Donner added a goal and finished with two shots. The Mounties recorded seven shots overall, including three on goal.
Sam Denchfield (Truro, England, Loughborough College) started in goal and made one save during the opening half before Enbacka took over for the second half and also recorded one save. Together, the Mounties' goalkeepers finished with two saves.
Mount Aloysius finished the match with a 7-9 disadvantage in shots and earned three goals on the afternoon. The Mounties also battled through 16 fouls while holding Mount Union to eight.
The draw moves Mount Aloysius to 1-5-3 on the season. They continue their season Tuesday on the road against Bethany.
