BETHANY, W.Va. - The Mount Aloysius men's soccer team closed out its non-conference schedule in style on Tuesday night, cruising past Bethany College, 4-0, at Bison Stadium.
The Mounties found the back of the net four times and received goals from four different players, while the defense and goalkeeper Elliot Enbacka (Stockholm, Sweden, Sjölins Gymnasium) kept Bethany off the scoreboard for the full 90 minutes.
Mount Aloysius controlled the match from the opening whistle, outshooting the Bison 25-4 and holding a commanding 11-1 advantage in corner kicks. The Mounties also put 12 shots on target compared to just three from Bethany.
After nearly 27 minutes of scoreless action, Benjamin Lyons (East Brunswick, N.J., East Brunswick) broke through in the 28th minute with a header to give the Mounties a 1-0 advantage. Zack Marshfield (Stroud, England, Stroud High Sixth Form) provided the assist, marking the first of two helpers on the night for the senior defender.
Just over four minutes later, Mount Aloysius doubled its advantage when Pelayo Martin (Ciudad Real, Spain, IES Santa María de Alarcos) found the back of the net in the 32nd minute. Once again, Marshfield was there to set up the scoring opportunity, giving him a pair of assists before halftime.
The Mounties carried a 2-0 lead into the break before adding another goal early in the second half.
In the 52nd minute, Rasmus Andersson (Orebro, Sweden, Virginska Gymnasiet) extended the Mount Aloysius lead to 3-0, with Lyons and Axel Qvarnstroem (Uppsala, Sweden, Katedralskolan) combining to set up the goal. Andersson's fourth goal of the season moved him to 11 points on the campaign.
Qvarnstroem would eventually get his own goal late in the match, finding the back of the net in the 87th minute to cap the scoring at 4-0.
The Mounties continued to apply pressure throughout the second half, finishing with 11 shots after halftime and six corner kicks. Bethany goalkeeper Lucas Bassetti made eight saves to keep the Bison within striking distance, but the Mount Aloysius attack proved too much.
Enbacka turned aside all three Bethany shots on target to record his first clean sheet of the season, as the Mounties' defensive effort secured the shutout.
The four-goal performance also highlighted the depth of the Mount Aloysius attack, with Lyons, Martin, Andersson and Qvarnstroem each finding the back of the net.
Marshfield finished the night with two assists, while Lyons added a goal and an assist. Qvarnstroem recorded a goal and an assist, and Andersson added another goal to his freshman 2026 campaign.
The Mounties now turn their attention to conference play.
Mount Aloysius will open AMCC competition on Saturday afternoon when the Mounties host Carlow University at 1 p.m. at Kelly Field. Saturday's contest will also serve as FC 814 Day as Mount Aloysius begins its conference schedule at home.
The Mounties are 3-0 all-time against the Celtics, who joined the AMCC in recent years.
Entering conference play, several Mount Aloysius players sit near the top of the AMCC statistical leaderboard. Gonzalo Terricabris (Catalonia, Spain, Garbi Pere Verges) leads the conference in goals with seven, points with 14 and shots with 31. Marshfield's three-assist performance against Bethany moved him into second in the AMCC with five assists, while Qvarnstroem ranks third with four assists and Martin sits fifth with three.
Andersson also enters conference play ranked fourth in the AMCC in total points with 11.
With the non-conference portion of the schedule now complete, the Mounties will look to carry Tuesday night's momentum into Saturday's AMCC opener at Kelly Field versus the Celtics.
